San Carlos Music update inTotonaka RV park,

Major deterrence of having a space in this park is that the Bar across the street raises their music level so loud from 9:00 pm to 4:00 am in the morning you will have to wear earplugs and cover and your head with a pillow if you are in the first four rows to get to sleep. (Believe me we are not exaggerating) There is no way it's going to get any better, as we've heard one of the Bar owners is the brother-in-law of the mayor of San Carlos. The police absolutely will do nothing except at about four clock in the morning they will blip their sirens to do a little road traffic when everyone is leaving. A lot of businesses and homeowners have made formal complaints but I'm afraid this will do no good. The park is almost full, I'm sure if there was one or two units they might be able to get you in. Some small caravans do come in, but park on the street before they leave the next day. It makes it a little hard to go down the Main Street but everybody seems to make it fit. Mary & Reg

RE: 22 Trucks stolen in the month of September 2007

Please let’s stay focused on the original post, using cutoff switches for the electrical system and fuel is a good idea. Probably until this settles down one person might stay with the vehicle while the others do the shopping. Not convenient but save. Maybe you could tip the parking attendant in advance, not sure that would be better than the commission is getting the other way. But it would be a good gesture and maybe avoid the situation. We've parked in that Wal-Mart lot several times and never gave any mind to security, but we will be more careful now even here in the quiet town of San Carlos. If anybody has any more ideas on security tips please come forward. Mary & Reg

We also have heard if you put a cut off switch to the diesel fuel pump that the diesel will not run. But all of this is an excellent suggestion, whatever preventive security you put on, I would think it's important it would react immediately. You don't want them to go very far. We are definitely going to put a cut off switch on our truck. We will look for somebody here in San Carlos as were going to be here quite some time. Mary & Reg

RE: 22 Trucks stolen in the month of September 2007

We are not trying to sensational anything the Wal-Mart employs verified the amount of trucks stolen and that was just for one month. We are currently building a home in San Carlos and love it here. So before anybody starts getting defensive you must also come to grips that there is crime in Mexico. Were not trying to compare Mexico crime with US, were simply stating a FACT when you go to some of the large cities take extra precaution and watching your vehicle. The fact that you are in foreign country will make it more difficult if you lose your vehicle. If we lost our truck, it pulls are 5th wheel. This would be a major problem for us, we have another car down here but it would be difficult but not impossible to get this problem resolved. But more difficult than it would be if we were in the United States. We are going to stay in touch with the people that lost there truck, and they are going to keep us posted on how long and how much the insurance company pays. We will post that as soon as we hear, I wouldn't expect any settlement very soon from what we've heard so far. Mary & Reg

Farmers & AAA will now insure vehicles in Mexico?

We just talked to some other people in the park and they said that Farmers Insurance and AAA will now ensure vehicles in the state of” Sonora” only. It was our impression that no American insurance companies would issue insurance in Mexico. Also we have heard that Mexico will not recognize any American insurance company. I'm curious if anybody else has some more current information on this, as we would like to be insured by an American company opposed to a Mexico Co.. Mary & Reg

22 Trucks stolen in the month of September 2007

We are currently in a RV park in San Carlos and a motor home just pulled in a few days ago with a terrible story. This was their first visit to Mexico; they stopped at Wal-Mart in Hermosillo. They were in there for 30 minutes, when they came out there 2006 F150 was gone. They also had passport cameras and other valuable miscellaneous items taken. They spent some confusing time trying to fill out police report. They got the Royal runaround, but finally with the help of some friendly Spanish-speaking Americans they at least accomplished the paperwork. (Or they hope). Sanborn is there insurance company and when they called there representative he said they would probably have a check in a week. However after a few days more of calling, it seems that Sanborn is underinsured by another carrier and they are requesting additional information that may require them to go back to Hermosillo Police Department for more paperwork. The store manager of Wal-Mart was of no help in fact he was rude. It is their guess that probably parking lot attendants and the Police Department are involved in this theft. Some of the people at Wal-Mart said that it only takes one minute to still a car. It seems that ranchers are the purchasers of the cars. This certainly is going to change the way we leave our truck when they go to Hermosillo, but if there this bold, what would prevent them from just asking you to get out of the truck or car and take it anyway. This is very bad and I hope the governor gets this problem corrected ASAP. Reg & Mary Note: The Americans whose truck was stolen are taking this very calmly and are enjoying their visit here in San Carlos.

RE: Liability amounts for insurance

Don’t worry the attorneys will educate the people how to sue so they can get there 30 percent. It won’t take all that long, we have already heard some lawsuit stories. In the US you should have 500,000 min liabilty. That may not be enough because of legal fees. Reg

RE: Fulltiming in Northern Mexico

Go to San Carlos, MX and stay at Totonaka RV Park, 475.00 a month with full hook ups. The people are great there and you would love it. I would not Boondock as it is not total save from theft unless you have other RV's around you. This is in Sonora which will not require a car permit, Get insurance on your truck, Lewis & Lewis or some other Insurance company. Buy it by the year it is cheaper. Here is a link to find out about San Carlos. http://www.vivasancarlos.com/ This would be a good start for you. You could do some side trips to Copper Canyon & Alamos. This is our view as we have been to a lot of places in MX. With your side trips you may find out you might want to go somewhere else, no problem you are a RV. Reg
